The Barbados Federation of Island Triathletes (BFIT) successfully hosted the 2024 World Triathlon Development Camp and Regional Cup. This prestigious World Triathlon event took place on Sunday, July 7, 2024, along the scenic Mighty Grynner Highway under the expert supervision of Canadian Technical Director Jerome McEniry and Assistant Technical Director Richard Perkins.
The event featured two exciting races:- SPRINT TRIATHLON REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT CUP: For athletes aged 16 years and older, covering distances of 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run.
- AGE GROUP SUPER SPRINT: For athletes aged 13-15, covering distances of 400m swim, 10km bike, and 2.5km run.
These races were the culmination of a successful four-day training camp held on the mezzanine floor of the Barbados Aquatic Centre. A total of 52 competitors participated, including 24 local athletes and 28 regional athletes from Aruba, Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago.
In addition to the athletic competition, six overseas coaches completed a World Triathlon Level 1 Certification coaching course. The event was hailed as a great success, promoting both athletic excellence and regional cooperation in the sport of triathlon.
